It depends on the species and weather or not they breed. the average life span is between 6 months and about 8 years without breeding. Once and octopus breeds that's pretty much it. if the female doesn't eat the male he only lives a couple weeks to a couple months later. once the female lays the eggs and guards them until they hatch she has about two weeks before death.
