two years
Congress IS the legislative branch. Representatives are voted in for 2 years and Senate for 6 years terms.
The three branches of government are Judicial, legislative and the executive branch. They are still in effect doing the business of Government.
The lower house of the legislative branch, often referred to as the House of Representatives in the U.S., is primarily responsible for initiating revenue bills, representing the population, and providing a check on the executive branch. Members are elected to serve shorter terms, which helps them stay responsive to their constituents' needs. They also play a crucial role in the impeachment process, as they can bring charges against federal officials. Additionally, the lower house collaborates with the upper house to pass legislation.
In a parliamentary system, the executive branch is led by a prime minister who is chosen from the legislative branch, while in a presidential system, the executive branch is separate from the legislative branch and led by a president elected directly by the people. In terms of decision-making processes, parliamentary systems often involve a closer relationship between the executive and legislative branches, with the prime minister relying on the support of the parliament to stay in power. In contrast, presidential systems have a more independent executive branch that is not as directly accountable to the legislature.
Judicial review is there to ensure that both the executive and legislative branches stay within the limits of their power and don't try to expand it in order to gain additional control over the government. Of course, politics are involved in all parts of government, and it doesn't always ensure that.

Each state is different. Some have term limits while others don’t.

Peers of the realm are appointed for life. They may be appointed for a particular portfolio or post by a sitting government but if the government changes they still remain peers.
The Federal courts can review cases that question laws and decide if the laws are valid. NovaNet!!! The Judicial Branch of the U.S. Government has the authority to rule on any Act of Congress or Presidential action that violates the Constitution. Therefore, it acts as a "check" against unlawful legislation or actions by the other two branches.
