100 years
The wisent became extinct in northern Sweden in the 11th century, and southern England in the 12th.
Apart from wisents, in their natural environment in Bialowieza Forest of large mammals there are wolves, elk(eng)=moose(am), lynx, red deer, roe deer and badgers. Brown bears are no longer there but there are plans to re-introduce them. Brown bears and wisent since recent reintroduction live together in Bieszczady part of Carpathian Mts. There, foresters observed what could be first kill of a wisent by a bear since some 200 years when both species become very rare.
Wisent or European bison.
The largest animal in Europe is the Wisent.
There are two species of bison. One is found in North America. The other, which is called a wisent, only lives in Europe. The wisent used to be more widespread, and live in part of Asia, not just Europe.
A zubr is a certain species of European bison or auroch, including the wisent.
