If you are arrested the longest you can be held in POLICE custody is until the next scheduled convening of court, at which time you will be presented to court. What happens after that is in the hands of the court. You will not be held, or returned. to POLICE custody.

If you are continued to be held in confinement, if you are an adult, it will probably be by whichever agency operates the jails or detention facilities in your jurisdiction (possibly the Sheriff's office), or if a juvenile, you will be turned over to the Juvenile authorities.
