This will depend on what you are using your MacBook Pro for and in what conditions you are using the machine in. Usually, a MacBook Pro should last more than 4 years if you do abuse it. I have MacBook Pro that has lasted me 3 years so far and it's still going very good. It still runs as fast as it did 3 years ago and it's still in good working condition.
It really depends on the user of the machine and where and what you use it for.

∙ 11y agoThey last until you no longer have a use for it. Either they feel too slow or the applications will no longer stay updated by the manufacturers.
For example, if you were to buy a new printer (or camera, etc.) more then likely the printer manufacturer won't write a driver to support an older operating system.
That's basically what happened to my 10 year old Macs, most of the new hardware and software didn't have any drivers or updates to use on any of the older computers. (happens to Macs and Windows)

∙ 9y agoAlot of it depends on how well the user takes care of their MacBook, and if you keep up with software updates and the like. If you own one of the non-Retina versions, you can extend the life even more by upgrading the RAM, or swapping the stock hard drive for a solid state drive.

∙ 9y agoNo real answer to this question. The battery will eventually fail to hold a charge and need replacing but the computer itself can last for 10 years or more.
