He has served in this role since January 2019 and is known for his focus on judicial efficiency and access to justice. Prior to becoming Chief Justice, Parraguirre was a member of the Nevada Supreme Court and has a long history in the state's judicial system.

President Bill Clinton nominated Stephen Breyer to replace Justice Harry Blackmun, who retired in 1994. Breyer joined the US Supreme Court in August 1994; as of January 2010, he has served more than fifteen years on the bench.
Four years. Sandra Day O'Connor was elected to the Maricopa County Superior Court, in Arizona, in 1975 and served as a judge there until she joined the Arizona Court of Appeals in 1979. O'Connor remained on the state Court of Appeals until President Reagan nominated her to be the first female Supreme Court justice in 1981. Justice O'Connor retired from the US Supreme Court in 2006, and was succeeded by Justice Samuel Alito.
