The time it takes for mail to travel from one place to another will depend on a few things.
-Delivery Method: USPS, Fed Ex, etc.
-Route and zoning of Post Office or delivery store
-Weather
-The type of package (letter, box, etc.)
I think the standard time for a letter sent from one part of the country to another is going to be about 1-4 days (add 1 day if Sunday is in the range).
With NC and OH being relatively close, I would think mail sent at the beginning of the week should reach its destination by week's end. I'm in AL, and a bill payment to a company in OH was sent on Thursday of last week (Today is Tuesday).I saw today that the payment was deposited yesterday, so it seems that the letter arrived over the weekend.
Packages can take a little longer to deliver since they require more processing, especially if they are larger in size or heavy. I think USPS and private delivery services all offer an option to track your mail with a tracking code that you enter online. Hope this helps.
