Research indicates that planarian worms are almost immortal. Even when cut into pieces or sliced in half, each part can grow a whole new worm and it continues to survive. These worms are being studied to see if their longevity can help humans in some way.

A planarian is a type of flatworm that lives in different kinds of water. As long as the worm has a steady food source and his living area is kept clean, there is no reason why he could not live for several months to a year.

When I made a planaria experiment 3 years back, they basically disintegrated... I would count how many were in the petri dish, and for some odd reason I would get less numbers. I always made sure to suck up debris and at times there would be small black-ish specks and floating white pieces.
