Yes, especially if you live in a hot and humid country. Shaving a Pekingese during summer can prevent it from getting heatstroke, and doing this can maybe even save your Peke's life. To be honest, if you live in a place with a really hot and humid climate, you shouldn't consider about getting a Pekingese. The humid air can reduce the heat loss of your dog. Even if you shave its fur short, they're muzzle is relatively short. One of the ways that a dog can reduce its body temperature is by panting, so having a short muzzle (and tongue) means that the dog can't loss heat as fast and as good as long-muzzled dogs. As you can see the Pekingese is poorly adapted to the heat and the humid, so if you live in sweating hot location, forget about the Pekes and get a short-haired dog!
