You kidnap them and break their fingers
Funny I learned this in school a few weeks ago. It was actually her and the king who approved his voyage. They first said no. Columbus asked again soon later. They said yes because they lost a lot of money (I forgot how) and thought he and other voyagers with him would find a lot of gold in their travels.

King Fernandind and Queen Isabella
Queen Isabella 1 of Spain (a.k.a. Queen Isabella of Castile) is remembered for sponsoring Christopher Columbus and his trip to America. She is also remembered for marrying King Ferdinand of Aragon and uniting Spain. She expelled the Jews and Muslims from Spain and made Catholicism the main religion.
Queen Isabella helped finance Columbus's ride to the new world.
After numerous attempts to get a "sponsorship", on the second attempt Ferdinand and Ysabella (pronounced Isabella) the king and queen of Spain finally agreed. P.S. Mr. Columbus never set foot in what is now known as the United States of America, he only discovered what is now central America, Mexico and Cuba.
Queen Isabella was a great queen. She was smart and beautiful. Isabella helped Christopher Columbus set sail for the first time. Christopher Columbus wanted to see if there were any other land that was part of the world and not only there's. Also, she helped finance his expedition. He asked 3 times, and she refused, but on the 4th plea, she gave in and helped him prepare his trip.
Contrary to popular belief, Columbus was not looking for a new world or trying to prove that the world was round. Scholars already knew the world was a sphere and a new world was only dreamt of. The purpose of his voyage was to map out a new, elusive sea trade route to Asia. King Ferdinand V and Queen Isabella Iwere the rulers of Spain at the time and finally agreed to finance Columbus' voyage because it could severely boost Spain's economy, bring in gold, jewels, spices and slaves. Also, since all of the new land would be claimed for Spain and Columbus would discover the route (for Spain) the queen and king of Spain would have complete control of the trade route, makiong them even richer.More info: The Santa Maria crashed on a rock and Cristopher Colombust went on the ship called the Nina.
