It depends on how well you take care of yourself
Apparently, it varies in many way, but a generous estimate would be 10 years if it goes untreated from the very moment in which the HIV is contracted.
However, as many people now know, there are anti-retrovirals that aid in combating the HIV and preventing the onset of AIDS, so long as they are constantly administered, and treatment is not stopped.
In theory a person, now with these anti-retrovirals, can supposedly live completely near normal lives. What I mean by this is that their entire life span should now be capable of carrying on for as long as someone that does not have the HIV Virus.
There is no specific time frame in which HIV can turn into AIDS. With all the breakthroughs in the drugs given to HIV patients, the onset of AIDS takes longer and longer to set in.

∙ 14y agoNo, there are people who have been HIV positive for more than twenty years and have not had any serious AIDS related illnesses. They have been taking anti-retroviral drugs regularly all this time.
