The normal of length of pregnancy for a Dog of any breed is about 9 weeks. Between 63 and 65 days is normal, but should your Dog reach her 69th day of pregnancy you should take her to a veterinarian as she may need a caesarian or labour-inducing injections.

About 12 months for the skeletal frame but up to 5 years for substance. A stafford should mature late, 3 years being ideal.

How long has Staffordshire bull terriers been about?

Since the 17th century where it emerged from a cross between Bull Terriers and other terriers of the time. At this time they were used for blood sports like bull baiting and bear baiting. This common ancestor was known as the Bull and Terrier. After these bloodsports were eliminated in 1835 these dogs came to be used in dogfights.

What were staffordshire bull terriors bred for?

Staffordshire Bull Terriers were bred in an age where Bull baiting and Dog fighting were still seen as 'sports'. Bull baiting is when a tethered bull has trained Dogs set on it so that onlookers can bet on either how many Dogs the Bull can kill or how long it takes for the Dogs to kill the Bull. A similar blood sport was using bears. Dog fighting was organised in pits where people would bet on which Dog would win; this is also how the Pit Bull Terrier originated. Luckily, these 'sports' have been illegal for more than a century. Unfortunately, organised Dog fights still take place illegally in some countries. Today, Staffordshire Bull Terriers make great pets and family members.

Is an America Staffordshire Terrier a Pitbull?

Both of these breeds are illegal in the UK. The main difference between these two breeds is that American Staffordshire Terriers have a recognised, official breed standard, whereas Pit Bull Terriers do not. Pit Bull Terriers are not actually an official breed.

How long do staffordshire bull terriers stay on heat?

It depends it can start from 6 months. We thought our staffy was too young and took her to the vet. It does not mean that the dog is old enough to have babies but it can start as young as five months.

How can you visually tell the difference between a Staffordshire terrier and a pitbull terrier?

Firstly, the Pit Bull is not actually a breed, but the term is used to refer to breeds such as the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and sometimes the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Assuming by ''Pit Bull'' you mean the American Pit Bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier, the difference is that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a few inches shorter, weighs less and was first bred in England. ''Pit Bull'' type dogs are unfortunately illegal in many countries, such as the UK, with the exception of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier; which is still legal.

Why does your Staffordshire bull terrier have long legs?

Staffordshire Bull Terriers can vary considerably within the breed, with some being described as ''short and stocky'' and some being described as ''long-legged and athletic''. Unless your Staffy is Kennel Club registered with pedigree papers, there is every chance that it may be a crossbreed with a taller breed such as a Pit Bull Terrier or Lurcher. This is not necessarily the case however, as some purebred Staffies are simply taller than others. My pedigree Staffordshire Bull Terrier was all-leg until she reached a year old and started to bulk out. Don't worry, every Dog is different!
