I dont think it's actually possible for your baby dragon to 'age' aside for it's grown form in titan battles and other such things, dragon chow just gives it points to spend on it's stats.

Your Dragon attacks you if you dont feed it enough. If you run out of food, go to lady celestia and buy normal dragon chow for 10 gold, or Special dragon chow for 10 dragon coins Edit: Previously pets attacked you because of in game plot, but currently they do not attack you. My main hasn't been attacked and she hasn't been fed for months.
