There is no more Superferry. It went out of business a couple years ago.

Well, it was a big regularly scheduled ferry service that started up only a couple of years ago that could also take cars and such in addition to people, but we were there in December '09 and according to the local papers ferry service had been discontinued indefinitely.
A direct flight from New York City to Maui will take about 11 hours. If you have a connection through Honolulu, the flight from New York City to Honolulu is also about 11 hours, with a flight from Honolulu to Maui will take about 30 minutes.

By plane about 45 .... 30 minutes. There was a ferry service but that was discontinued this winter and whether it starts up again is not certain. It took several hours.
