Once you've removed the head, not long at all. You just need a valve spring compressor and fingers that can make those silly retainers fit into the little slots. * Or you can change them with the head still on - just make sure the piston is TDC on the cylinder you are working on - they make a spring compressor that will bolt onto the rocker arm boss for compressing the spring.

yes i think you will be all right but i would not rev it up high. the best thing to do is just change the springs they are cheap and you have to put new lifters in anyways if the cam is not roller. they make kits that put air into the cyl so you can change the spring on the car with out the valve falling down and you dont have to take the heads off

you should only change the gasket if you have to take the valve cover off....... you should only change the gasket if you have to take the valve cover off.......
take your cylinder head off and change it.it is usually easyer to change the head
