Because your download rate maybe slow or there are to many people downloading it at the same time. The halo reach game is a big file so it will take several hours to download. If you dont want your Xbox on all the time, you can enable background download. This will tell your xbox to sleep but keep downloading the file and when done, shut down the console. This is located in the console settings.
