You don't "go to college to become a dancer". College is what you do to make sure that you're trained in something when it turns out you're not good enough to become a professional dancer.
Many colleges do offer dance classes, but people who are actually serious about "becoming a dancer" generally go to specialized classes offered through a dance company instead (possibly simultaneously with college, for the reason stated above). (Most of them started when they were about 4, also.)
For example, the Los Angeles Ballet offers "pre-professional trainee" courses for high school graduates; the program lasts two years and auditions are required.
