The Main Street set on the Universal lot served as the location of the fictional town of Fairville. Fairville Presbyterian Church was on the Universal backlot, and Fairville Courthouse was Universal Studios' main executive office. The hotel that Marion and Sam are in at the beginning was the Jefferson Hotel, which is now the Barrister Place Building in Phoenix, Arizona. The opening shot of Phoenix was also filmed in Phoenix. The swamp was Falls Lake on the Universal-Revue backlot.
