For a season of a TV series, it's usually available after the subsequent season has aired. For films, it seems to be sometime after the Blu-Ray/DVD release.
Lately it seems the DVD of TV shows is coming out faster and faster. It seems to take about 2-3 months on average for the DVD to come out after the season has ended.
Let's just put it this way... more than a year... from what I know...
The second season is on TV at the moment, it came back September 13.

I'm not entirely sure, but it takes Doctor Who 3 weeks to film their hour long episodes which are quite compilcated to shoot. So I'd say about 1-2 weeks? It also depends on the kind of TV show they are filming. Whether it's a sitcom or more like Merlin and Dr Who. Yeah, so about 1.5 weeks. I hope that answers your question!
It just ended it's 6th season, going on to the 7th
She left the show after season 2 because of "personal reasons. This was said at the beginning of season 3.
