If you are going downstream, there are no more locks after Teddington and the river will be tidal until you reach the estuary where it discharges into the North Sea. If you are travelling upstream, there are several locks and the river passes through Windsor, Reading and Oxford among other places to reach its source in Gloucestershire.
Hurricane Rita caused some minor flooding in New Orleans, but did not hit it directly.
New Orleans is sinking because it relies on the Mississippi River to overflow its banks. The silt from the Mississippi builds up the land around it just like Egypt. When they built the levees, the Mississippi River ceased to overflow its banks. Now, there are no new deposits of silt. Plus, the barrier reefs are disappearing for the same reason. Without the barrier reefs, more powerful storms can reach the shores of New Orleans, causing more and more erosion to the land.
The River Thames runs through London and connects the city to the North Sea. The source of the river is Thames Head in Gloucestershire. The North Sea tides reach well into London, at Teddington Lock.
