If a person goes to school full-time, it would take them about six years to earn a master's degree in Paleontology, however, a Ph.D. is preferred. This will take most people another 2 to 3 years. As of September 2014, there are only 40 paleontologists in the world who are actively digging up dinosaur bones, so opportunities exist in that area of Paleontology as well as other areas.
