What I noticed from personal experience is that the first time it swells it only happens for a couple hours. However, I didn't at first realize it was a reaction to ibuprofen. A few times later, my upper lip swelled WAY beyond normal swelling, and remained that way throughout the night. My mom developed the same allergic reaction, and her doctor told her to never take ANY anti-inflammatories, as many of them will react the same way Ibuprofen does with your body. In addition, if you forget and you do indeed take Ibuprofen, you should call 911 and then take Benadryl, in THAT order, so help can arrive as quickly as possible, because the facial swelling can move to your throat, making it impossible to breathe.
