Liverpool (Speke) Airport, as the airport was originally known, started scheduled flights in 1930, but did not officially open until the summer of 1933. A newer terminal was built in 1986 to replace the still standing original 1930's terminal, which has since been turned into a hotel. The airport was renamed Liverpool John Lennon Airport in 2002. So the airport has existed for 81 years and has been named for John Lennon for the past 9 years.
