Dreamcatchers are believed to have their origins with the Ojibwe Nation. However, many tribes have long had a history of various forms of the dreamcatcher. Dreamcatchers, as their name implies, catch bad dreams in the web to be dispersed when the sun rises. Good dreams simply float through the hole in the center. Various everyday items can adorn the dreamcatcher, such as beads, shells and feathers according to each tribe's beliefs.
The origin of the dreamcatcher is not known exactly. It is widely thought to have begun with the Ojibwe tribe ( Chippewa ). The first documented recognition of the dreamcatcher was in 1929 in the Ojibwe tribe. Since then many tribes across the nation have their own versions and traditions associated with the dreamcatcher. Stories of Spiders and dreams are the most common stories related to them, but some other tribes may associate different meanings to them.

stick and wool
No you can not or otherwise it will not workA different response:Of course you can wash a dream catcher, as long as you consider the material the dream catcher is made of. One made of leather or wool should not be immersed in water - wiping with a damp rag or going over it carefully with a soft brush should be sufficient. After all, you don't want a bunch of stale bad dreams clogging up the web. And always remember, the magic is in you, not in the dream catcher.

It's an American Indian charm that is supposed to keep bad dreams away.Dream catchers originally were charms made to comfort children who were frightened by nightmares. The dream catcher consists of a net or web, resembling a spider web, that is woven inside a hoop, and often decorated with beads, feathers and other ornaments. The dream catcher is hung near the child's bed or in the bedroom window to catch nightmares and keep them away from the child. Sometime in the 1970s, dream catchers became popular throughout the U.S.A. along with other Native American traditions favored by New Age enthusiasts.
