The Cocker spaniel
cocker spaniels are temperemental and very vicious at times ^ this is not true! We have always had cocker spaniels and they are very very friendly, brill with children and strangers and extremely loyal. They are excellently well behaved and easy to train but can be full of energy. -I agree with the first statement. Every Cocker I have been around has been very temperamental and the one I currently have to deal with is very aggressive, even with his owner of 8 years that has owned him since he was a puppy. I am not saying that every cocker is mean or temperamental, but a good number of them are and from what I have read online and have been told by my professors (in veterinarian classes and animal behavior classes) you are more likely to be bitten by a cocker spaniel than most other breeds.
it is not just cocker spaniels that lie down funny it is actually all dogs that choose to but cocker spaniels and other dogs that have their tails docked often find it comfier but no-one really knows why but it has been proven scientifically. (the term 'funny' means lying awkwardly on there side.)
Yes there have been cases of toy poodles and standard schnauzers. Also, cocker spaniels and poodles.
Spaniels have been bred as hunting dogs in England for about 500 years. The first identification of a "Cocker" Spaniel dates to the 1850's, though the breed was certainly around long before official breeding records were kept.
Cocker Spaniels were originally breed as hunting dogs used specificly to bring back water fowl. So most Cockers will happily fetch balls and frisbees.
yes and no. they are good dogs, however when they get older, they tend to get mean and cranky. this isn't the case with all, but many that i have seen. so this may not be the best breed if you have a family and young kids.
The three main breeds used are 1- the German Shepard 2- the labrador 3- Spaniel - both springer and cocker but other breeds and crosses have been used from time to time including collie and bloodhound
The Australian singer, Jarvis Cocker is no relation to Joe Cocker. Jarvis Cocker's father is a DJ named Mack Cocker. There has never been any mention of Joe Cocker and his wife Pam having any children.
Hi I have also wondered this today, as My cocker is 5 months and quite small with short hair, But today we met another cocker who was much bigger and like a fur ball lol, and only a month older at 6 months. My cocker spaniel is a pedigree from working sogs, I wondered if working dogs have a shorter coat? Yes they can! But you need to know if yours is a short haired or long. All puppies have short hair at first.
