Generally speaking, most people have never heard of it, him or her. Nor would it hold their interest for long.
Those that are interested would only be so since it gained any publicity, which is obviously only local. Therefore their interest would only extend to any sensationalism that the press made of the matter.

Ebenezer : First of all before you do ANYTHING> Think about what your going to do first. Then If you decide "Yes" go to Eastern New Jersey. Buy a map at one of those retail stores there. Go out the sighted areas in New Jersey where most people have claimed that they've SEEN the Jersey Devil. Camp there long enough at night. Grab your camera. Start searching around for any evidence that the Jersey Devil has been or IS there. Be careful now, this is the part where it gets all spooky Lads. Once you start hearing noises (If your brave enough) FOLLOW it. It might Lead you to the terrifying Beast with its Raper face or Some lost animal going about diddly squat. If you DO find the Jersey Devil. Keep distance from it so that it won't at the least harm you. Take your best picture quickly before it fly's away. Once you have taken a picture of the beast. GET OUT OF THERE or it will grab all the Jersey Devils of which it reproduced by time and attack you. Drive out the woods or get out of any way but just GET OUT. Go to a Discovery Lab and tell them that you have found evidence of the jersey devil being in the camping area of which you have been in 10 minutes ago. They might say its a fake ( because you were trembling in fear of the beast so much that you didn't get a good shot at him.) or they might say your name will go down in History and you will receive a bunch of Cash for your amazing proof of existence that the Jersey Devil IS real. THAT is the proper way of catching that blasted demon. ( If you didn't have as much luck looking for The Jersey Devil in your camping area, Try Hunting down the house of which the beast was born in and search him there. But who am i Kidding. Some of you shall be SO much of a Coward you won't even try the FIRST step of this Guide to helping you make a Great Discovery!)
In medieval times, the Church demanded absolute obedience and belief in its teachings. Not believing in the devil would almost have been akin to not believing in God, and would not have been tolerated. However, the common people alleviated their fear of the devil by making him a figure of fun.The devil is a remnant of a superstitious past and does not really even exist. Thus, today it is quite common for people not to believe in the devil, even if they still hold religious beliefs.
