Selection and initial training is around 6 months although further parachute and speciality training is done on assignment to a troop.
The SBS are the navy's equivalent of the army's SAS (special air service regiment)they undergo exactly the same scheme of selection as the SAS, but continue long after with maritime training until they are accepted into the SBS.In my opinion this would make them better trained. The SBS also tend to have a higher level of fitness. How fit do you have to be to burst into a room and rescue hostages (SAS) compared to swimming a mile in rough seas at night to climb up an oil rig and rescue hostages (SBS)?In my opinion the SBS are better, but that doesn't mean I'm calling the SAS crap.
The Special Air Service is part of the British Army ; see relevant link to further information .
Special Air Service. Pretty much the British version of the marines.
Special Air Service and Special Boat Service; elite units of the British military created to fight the Axis in World War 2. The SAS is still in existence. Not sure about the SBS.
It depends on what you mean by army. The army doesn't include marines who experience some of the toughest training in the world. Personally I'd say the SAS as even after their initial training stage never actually stop training.
There are three SAS forces on the planet (Note SAS is different from Special Forces). The British, Australian and New Zealand SAS's. The British SAS is thought to be widely the best special forces in the world, although the Australian SAS has beaten the British on numerous training exercises. And the NZ's is not that incredible, just a small country's ordinary special forces unit.
The only training available for SAS jobs is the training SAS provides it self. They like to train their employees themselves before putting them out in the work field.
Hey there, The British SAS (Special Air Service) are considered to have the most intense training methods. Many people apply for the SAS but only a small amount pass selection.
In Kolkata there is only one Institute delivering SAS training. visit:wwwnivtindia.com
i think a few british troops were 'accidentily' shiped to 'nam with the australian SAS but not in any great numbers.

Hey there, They are in a way equal. US Marines may have quantity, however British Marines have quality. US Army has more man power, it does have intense training, but I and other people agree that the British Army has more intense training. British Army also has the SAS (Special Air Service) the SAS are currently the toughest unit in the world, also the British Army have the SBS (Special Boat Service) this is also another intense unit. Hope this helps!
While the U.S. Marine Corps is much harder to be accepted into than the U.S. Army; it is a completely separate branch of the military. The SAS are trained specifically for Special Operations, while the USMC has several specialist branches within it (i.e. there are USMC fighter pilots, while the SAS only has infantry personnel) Therefore, to compare the whole USMC to the Elite Special Forces of the British Army is rather unreasonable. While the USMC basic training lasts 12 weeks; just to nominate for SAS selection, candidates need to have passed the 14 week basic training for the British Army. SAS candidates must undertake a selection process of 19 weeks that tests their teamwork and fieldcraft knowledge. Therefore, in terms of training and skill, SAS is much better equipped than the USMC. Once again, to compare SAS and USMC is unreasonable, as the SAS is a select special forces element much like the Navy SEALS. Hope this helps :)
To be in the SAS... you are a exceptional soldier who goes on to do further training and sees if you have 'got what it takes'. SAS is mainly about self- reliance so i'd imagine you'd need to be a cook, engineer, hunter, survivalist ect as well as your combat training, marksman, gunner, motor man, tactician ect
It is the best after the british sas. Although this has never been proven.
