If you drive with just over night stops then you can do it easily in 5 or 6 days. There are also 2 good ways to drive, you can drive up to Rockhampton and then across to Mt Isa or Brisbane up through the bush to Mt Isa.
There are many sights to see, and it is recommended one take the time to visit the attractions in places such as Longreach (Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame), Winton (Waltzing Matilda Centre), Mt Isa.
I would strongly advise anyone to do the trip as you do get out and see the bush and sites you don't see in tourist areas.
