I have read that turtles need UV light 10-14 hours a day. What i do is when i wake up i put it on, then turn it off in the evening sometime, around 6-7. That gives them the right amount of time.

∙ 14y agoActually turtles need about 10-14 hours, so you could leave it on during the evening and then turn it off in the morning. Or, you could keep it on during the daytime & turn it off at night.

∙ 13y agoSince heat lamps are designed to replace sunlight, leave the lamp on from sunrise to sunset. If your turtle is indigenous to a part of the world that gets more sun than where you live, leave the lamp on for the length of time the sun shines in that area.

∙ 14y agoThat really depends on the reptile, equatorial species tend to like 12/12 dark light cycles, while more northerly and southerly ones often need you to mimic seasonal variations in light. Some don't 'need' lights at all.

∙ 12y agoFor my pet turltes in a sense i treat them like a human, during the night i turn off their light and keep it on during the day. If you never give a turtle light algae and other gross stuff will grow on their shells and start molding away their shell until it is soft....which is a really bad thing. I also sometimes take them outside for a couple hours to bask in the sun.
