How long should you wait to breastfeed after taking LSD?

You should not be taking drugs and breast feeding at the same time. The drug can be in your system in a matter of minutes and you will be passing it on to the baby. Ask your doctor if you want to know how long you need to pump and dump the milk before it is safe for your baby to drink again.

Psilocybin, the active ingredient in mushrooms, is converted in the body to its active form, psilocine (as psilocybin is a pro-drug). Studies in animals show that the vast majority of the psilocine is eliminated from the body in 8 hours. However, traces can be detected in the urine for as long as 7 days (although this may be glucoronated and thus metabolically unavailable).

I am unable to find any studies that actually tested breast milk for content of psilocine, so all we can do here is guess. That said, you're likely mostly clear after the aforesaid 8 hours, but more time would be safer.

The articles I reviewed for this agree on these two points in particular: psilocybin isn't very dangerous in terms of toxicity, but its effects are not at all well-understood. So don't consider this answer authoritative -- you won't find that sort of an answer at this time.

One of the major problems with LSD is that all of the effects are still not clearly understood. While it has a very short half-life (3-5 hours) there was some talk in the 1960s of CNS involvement and recurrence. So, while we can calculate an approximate time from this, it won't be hard and fast.

More, some forms of LSD are cut with a variety of other drugs, most notably methamphetamine, which has a slightly longer half-life (9 or so hours).

You're probably okay if you wait 24-48 hours. Bear in mind you're playing with some unknowns.

Everything you eat goes into the breastmilk so feeding your baby drugs is a major NO! You shouldn't even be around any babies while being high. I assume you are aware of that you can loose custody over something like that (child endangerment).
