Ideally it would be best not to smoke. Smoking tobacco is a stimulant that causes constriction of your capillaries decreasing the healing process of your gum beds. The inhalation of a cigarette can cause increase bleeding after oral surgery through the negative pressure it causes inside your mouth. Same as sucking through a straw is not recommended. Both of these can put yourself at risk for causing a dry socket. This is a very painful complication of tooth extraction. But to answer your question. The minimum should be 72 hours after any and all bleeding has stopped.

You should wait at least 2-3 days after the surgery. If you smoke anything right after the surgery. You could destroy the blood clot forming where the tooth was pulled. If you break this blood clot you will develop what is called Dry Socket. This is the most excruciating pain you will ever feel. It will have to be packed by gauze and this stuff that taste like your eating a 10x as strong gingerbread cookie.
