If you have the original battery from your laptop manufacturer, such as HP or Lenovo, then you should contact them or visit their website. If you have an aftermarket battery then visit that company's website for any recall information.
Depends what you want. iPad 2 is good for battery and thinness. Xoom has better cameras. Also depends where you are. Android 3.1 isn't available in Europe (3G) and Canada (wifi). On balance I'd say iPad 2.
If you was to rough it out then you must have robust laptop, spare battery . IBM Lenovo think pad should be good choice. You must carry good sleeve and laptop bag.
Most electronics stores, whether online or brick-and-mortar, should carry the Lenovo ThinkPad. It is wise to call ahead or check the store's website before heading out to a physical store.
Lenovo has bad screen brightness. I have Lenovo G480 the screen is not bright even on power plug with maximum brightness setting. I should test the screen brightness before buy it. I have my old Acer laptop the screen is superb. After all Lenovo is a purely China brand...
Turn your ThinkPad over, look on the bottom. There should be a sticker that has M/T and S/N on it. The "M/T" is your specific ThinkPad Model and Type. You need to know both the Model and the Type ... since many ThinkPad "models" have a dozen or so different "types" within that model family. If there is no sticker on the bottom of the laptop chassis, or it was worn off, you can alway press F1 and bootup and go into the laptop's BIOS setup. The first screen of the BIOS setup will tell you the Model and Type.
I had the t500 with switchable graphics. In short the machine is a power horse and their is good support available from Lenovo but I found the display to be rather dull and feel it should have been brighter. I sold it later due to this annoyance. If buying you should try and evaluate a specific model as their are many model types of T500 with many specifications.
The battery in your laptop should be very safe as long as it's not leaking. It should not leak unless it was damaged or left in extreme heat.

Your battery may be worn out. When you use electricity to run the laptop your battery should not be in your laptop. The power will run through the battery making it drain. Either replace your battery, or take it to get it check out if it is still under warrenty.
Run the battery calibrator
