You can start dreads by first growing long hair, and then waxing it into small portions.

u can start as small as 5cm or up you should grow it a bit longer than how long you want your dreads to be. And it also depends how you do it, if ur doing it professionally by a hair dresser then probably grow it out to how long you want your dreads to be but if u want to do it the traditional way (salt water and lots of grinding) then 5cm should do it
