It is thought they Hillary and Tenzing were on the summit of Mount Everest for about 15 minutes or so. They took photos, left some gifts for the gods in the snow and had a quick look around to see if they could find any clues that George Mallory had been there in 1924.

∙ 6y agoThe British Mount Everest expedition that Edmund Hillary was a member of reached base camp on the 12th April 1953. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit on the 29th May. Allowing for rest days and acclimatization it took them 47 days.
