At best they can last for several weeks. While there are some isolated cases of Mylar balloons remaining inflated for several months or even years, they are the exception rather than the rule.

It depends. A decent quality latex balloon can last up to a week before showing real signs of deflation. Mylar balloons can last even longer. But if you take a balloon outside on a cold day it will look deflated because cold air compresses, bringing it into a warmer room will plump it back up. Balloons should always be inflated in a neutral temperature so temperature changes won't make them burst! The great thing about mylar balloons is that they can be reinflated very easily

Helium balloons do not last long in the atmosphere. Actually, depending on wind, a couple hours maximum.

As a helium balloon rises through the atmosphere per Archimedes equation, Buoyant Force = Volume * (Density of Air - Density of Helium) * Gravity. (Gravity is the rate of acceleration due to gravity on earth = 9.8 m/s^2).

As the balloon's height above sea level increases, the atmospheric pressure decreases. (Because there are fewer molecules above pushing down on the molecules below)

As the atmospheric pressure decreases, the volume of the helium in the balloon increases per the ideal gas law, volume = number of molecules * ideal gas constant * absolute temperature / pressure.

Once the volume of the helium in the balloon is high enough, it bursts the balloon and the remaining rubber falls back to earth.

It depends on the ballon, not the helium. If you have a normal balloon you will be lucky if it lasts a week. If it is one of those big, silver-ish, expensive balloons it will last for many months.
