Best Answer

The Hubble Space Telescope is still going strong and could stay up until 2018. However there are many uncertainties. A critical part could get hit by a space rock. A gyro etc. could fail. Congress could quit funding it.

How long is the hubble telescope expected to last?

The last service should allow the Hubble to function until 2014, when its successor, the James Webb Space Telescope is due to be launched. However, current space operations have far outlived some of their expectations, so the Hubble could stay in service a lot longer.

What year was the Hubble Space Telescope put into orbit?

The Hubble Space Telescope was put into the orbit in 1990 and is still there up until today. It already had to be repaired five times and is expected to stay in the orbit until at least 2013.

How many years will the hubble space telescope stay in space?

It was launched in 1990 with an anticipated life span of 25 years. The first servicing mission by the Space Shuttle in 1993 made repairs to correct errors in the optical telescope, and subsequent missions added new instruments. It is expected to reenter the Earth's atmosphere sometime after 2018, and NASA has plans to attach a booster rocket using a robot probe, so that Hubble's reentry can be controlled to miss human habitations and land in the ocean.

What extreme temperature does the hubble telescope faces in orbit?

The Hubble telescope is located within the upper Thermospheric layer of the earth's atmosphere. Here air molecules are very far apart and temperatures don't stay consistent for very long however, it would be safe to say that the temperature could reach as high as 1,500 °C ( 2,730 °F) and as low as -50 °C ( -58 °F) due to the shadow the earth may cast on it at nights.

Can a space probe have an engine?

Yes, and many do depending on what they are for. If the probe is just being placed in earth orbit and is intended to stay if that orbit without moving then it needs no engine and won't have one. The Hubble Space Telescope is a good example. If the probe is intended to change its orbit around the earth, or if it is intended to leave earth orbit and go elswehere in the solar system, then it will need engines for that purpose and will have them.
