Well, there is not a simple answer here. A locomotive is about 87 decibels. A 777 can run about 140 decibels. HOWEVER- you will generally be closer to a locomotive than to a 777. There are train tracks 110 ft from my office. The train is louder than the aircraft that is 25,000 ft above my office.
