Ford produced 214,446 station wagons in 1956. 1956 was also the only year of production for the Parklane wagon, an upscale 2-dor wagen designed to compete with the Chevrolet Nomad.
US made vehicles stopped using real wood in there station wagons in the early 1950's.
Edsel ceased production in November, 1959. Studebaker's last American cars were built in 1964. The 1965 and 1966 Studes were made (body only) in Canada, using Chevrolet engines. Production ended after the 1966 model year.
They are pretty rare. The Edsel was only made 3 years. 1958, 59, 60. Production was: 1958--70,863 + 8,000 in Canada 1959--44,758 1960----2,846 Of those only around 1,700 are still on the road today. As you can see it is a pretty rare car especially the 1960 model.
The wagons were made of wood and floated behind the horses if it was nessary.
