1/4 of the Cherokee people died on the Trail of Tears. About 4,000 Cherokees died.
The Cherokee had already "refused" to move but they were forcefully moved to Oklahoma. Jackson was already out of presidency but he is held responsible for starting the further intentions for this Trail of Tears.
About 15,000 Cherokee Indians started on the trail and about 11,000 Indians survived.
That was the Cherokee Trail of Tears - the only one history seems to want to remember. However, there truly were many, many trails of tears for the American Indian tribes.
