4 liters. Some countries and regions use the term "metric gallon" to describe a measurement that's close to a USAmerican gallon (3.79 liters) or an Imperial gallon (4.56 liters)

People still use metric gallons because the gallon has historically been considered a convienent unit for measurement for liquids, such as beer and wine. It could be split into 4ths (quarts), 8ths (pints) or 16ths (cups)

You can split a metric gallon into 4ths (Liters), 5ths (800 ml, or a metric 5th), 8ths, (500 mls, or a metric pint) 10ths (400 ML), or 16ths (250 mls)

There is no such thing as a metric gallon. The metric measurement for volume is liters.
