Many Girl Scout and Girl Guide troops were being started in 1913, all over the world, and there wasn't any international organization that would keep records on the number of members or number of troops. There were very few national organizations at that time, also.
It is impossible to give a specific answer to this question. Before Lord Baden-Powell started the Girl Guide organization, there were many Girl Guide/Girl Scout troops already started.
Juliette Gordon Low started her first Girl Guide troop at her home in Glenlyon, Scotland. She then went to London, England, and started two more Girl Guide troops there. Juliette then returned to the USA and started an American Girl Guide troop in Savannah, Georgia in 1912. In 1913, the name was changed to American Girl Scouts. So, Juliette directly started four Girl Guide troops. After she started the troop in Savannah, Juliette surely had a hand in starting many more troops!
As of 2010, there were 40,146 Boy Scout troops and 8,530 Varsity Scout teams.
Girl Scouts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania are served by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) council. GSEP serves 41,000 girls in partnership with 15,000 volunteers. There are no statistics available about a specific number of troops in Philadelphia, plus that number would constantly be changing as troops are formed and disbanded.
Melinda Caroll composed the Girl Scout song, "Ignite", along with many other Girl Scout songs.
Since Girl Scouts are not required to sell Girl Scout products, there are many Girl Scouts who did not sell any Girl Scout cookies.
Girl Scout cookies are a nationally recognized product, so when people think of Girl Scouts, the first thing they usually think of is cookies! It is a huge money earning project for the troops and the Girl Scout council. However, Girl Scouts also sell other things. Most Girl Scout councils also host a nut and candy sale at a different time of the year. Some councils also host magazine sales or calendar sales. Depending on the council, Girl Scout troops may participate in other money earning projects, provided they follow GS guidelines and are approved by the Girl Scout council. Many of those projects involve selling items, especially items made by the girls them selves.
The first country to have a Girl Scout was most likely the United Kingdom. A Boy Scout rally was held in 1909 in the United Kingdom. Several girls attended proclaiming themselves to be Scouts. Robert Baden-Powell chose the name "Girl Guides" and decided that an organization for girls should be run by women so he asked his elder sister, Agnes, to help and, in 1910, the Girl Guide movement was formally founded. Before 1910, many countries already had Girl Scout troops.
Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) Girl Scout Seniors are for two years, grades 9 and 10.
One common Girl Scout prayer is the Girl Scout Grace, which goes: "Day is done, gone the sun, from the lakes, from the hills, from the sky. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh." Girl Scouts may also say the Girl Scout Promise or Law as a form of prayer or reflection.
The uniforms are different. They used to wear skirts, leggings, long sleeves, and vests. The Girl Scout Brownie program has changed. For many years they earned "Try-Its" but now they are back to earning Girl Scout Brownie Badges. They can also earn badges by completing Girl Scout Brownie Journeys. The age level has also changed. Many years ago, Girl Scout Brownies were grades 3 and 4. Then they were changed to be grades 1, 2, and 3. Currently, Girl Scout Brownies are grades 2 and 3.
