The X-caliber was made in the late 80's to 1990. They made it also in a .44 mag but was never put together. They were sold to the french (about 200-250 units) without the barrels attached, because they had pressure problems. Only a few were sold in the US by Bill Hicks Co. but very limited. This info was very hard to find, but I found the Ihtaca Gun production manager at the time (2007) worked for Redding-Hunter in Cortland New York. He told me that all the records were sent to the BATF and all the info was from memory. I do have a Model-20 Hunter that does shoot very well. it is only a 3 digit serial number starting with 20 (2000002XX). 20 is the model.
Ithaca made 382,000 of these between 1942 and 1945, but I don't know of a source for narrowing it down farther than that. Not sure about the serial number, as Ithaca was assigned serial numbers of 7 digits, beginning with 1,208,674 and ending with 2,693,613, but not sequential. Ithaca was awarded the only "E" for excellence in manufacture of these pistols of the 3 companies that made them for the military.
