There are no real estimates in the world right now on how many Orcas are actually left in the wild. Approximately 1000 whales have been individually identified in Alaskan waters through photographs.

Answer

The Killer Whale, or Orca also known as (Orcinus orca), is often believed to be a whale because of their name, but they are in the dolphin family. There are roughly three to five different populations, or subspecies, some even consider them to be separate species of Orcas.

But continued study and research is needed to provide more details to determine what classifications might be needed. An estimate of the world's population of Killer Whales, was about 100,000. But, recently that estimate was revised to 50,000 worldwide.

According to the US Fish and Wildlife, Endangered Species Report, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or the NOAA, and the Marine Mammal Protection Act, or the MMPA. Plus, also the International Union of Conservation for Nature or the IUCN Red List. It's made clear that the revised numbers could be on the low side, due to the extensive range of the Orca. At least 2,250 to 2,700 of this number are the "resident, transient and offshore" Orcas in the Northeastern Pacific. This range follows from California to the Western Aleutian Islands and the Bering Sea.
