A WGC event is a World Golf Championship event, these are the most prestigious golf events after the majors.
World Golf Championship. There are currently four WGC events, and in terms of importance they would come directly below the four major championships.
Not that many, unless they want to. The WGC and Major events are co sanctioned so qualify as PGA Tour events. A player must play 15 events to keep their card, assuming they maintain exempt status.
WGC-HSBC Champions was created in 2005.
Tiger Woods is basically paid huge appearance fees for playing at every event apart from The Majors and WGC events.

Due to the exemptions Tiger Woods has earned through his career he has the luxury of being able to choose which events he plays. He always plays the 4 majors, the WGC events, The Players Championship and those events which he is tied to by his sponsors. He would usually play around a maximum of 15 events a year.
