There are actually two different stories of Noah's Ark in The Bible, written by two different authors. Rather than discard one in favour of the other, the Redactor interleaved the two stories so that they look like a single, rather complicated story. The two authors were anonymous, but are now known as the Priestly Source and the Yahwist. The verses attributed to the Priestly author are: Genesis 6:9-22, 7:6, 7:8-9, 7:11, 7:13-16a, 7:18-21, 7:24, 8:1-2a, 8:3b-5, 8:7, 8:13a, 8:14-19, 9:1-17. The verses attributed to the Yahwist are: Genesis 6:5-8, 7:1-5, 7:7, 7:10, 7:12, 7:16b-17, 7:22-23, 8:2b-3a, 8:6, 8:8-12, 8:13b, 8:20-22.

Both authors agree that Noah took two of every unclean beast, therefore one of each sex.

The Yahwist (7:2-3) says that he took seven of each clean beast, although how many of each sex is unclear. The Priestly Source says (7:8-9) that he took only two of every clean beast, male and female.

How many animals of each sex did Moses?

A:None. It was Noah, not Moses in the story of the ark. See the correct question below.A:Several contributors feel that this is a trick question, and have 'corrected' it.The corrected question, and its answer, are available via the related linkshown below.Seeing that the questioner posted his question in the categories "Noah's Ark" and"Jokes and Riddles", those contributors are probably correct. But the question canalso be treated literally, as both Noah and Moses were associated with arks. The "ark" of Moses was the basket in which his mother placed him, in order to save himfrom the Pharaoh's edict that all male Hebrew children be exterminated. He was 3 monthsold at the time, his mother placed him and the basket in the reeds at the shores of the Nile, and there were no animals with the infant in the basket.(Exodus 1:3)The more famous biblical "ark" (same Hebrew word in the premiere edition) was the onebuilt by Noah, under orders and instructions, in order to spark a conversation amongthose who watched him build it, and ultimately to enable himself, his family, and all animallife to survive the coming deluge. The animal passengers on that one included sevenbreeding pairs of each bird and each clean/pure animal species, and two breeding pairsof every other species.(Genesis 7:2-3)
