The Gemini capsules were designed to hold 2 Astronauts, and each mission carried 2.
There were two men in each Gemini module(The constellation Gemini is the twins)

Each Gemini spacecraft launched 2 astronauts. 16 different astronauts flew a total of 10 Gemini flights. The last 4 Gemini flights (Gemini 9 through 12) were commanded by astronauts who had previously flown on an earlier Gemini flight.
Gemini refers to the constellation meaning twin, therefore two astronauts could be seated in the Gemini capsule
Apollo 1- a launch pad test resulted in a fire in the space capsule exacerbated by the fact that, at that time, NASA had a high oxygen atmosphere in space capsules, which greatly intensified the fire. The 3 astronauts in the capsule were killed, Grissom, White and Chaffee. They were the only Astronauts lost in the Apollo program.
