Latest records put the rate at under 6.5 for every 1,000 live births. However the number of pre-term birth deaths has increased as the number of pre-term births has also increased. Death rates for African-Amercain babies are still higher that "white" babies. Latest complete records puts US Birth Rate at under 4.2 million in 2005. The rate has shown an alarming decrease in the past 10 years. And we are dipping below the "replacement number" ( baby born for each adult that dies )

The economy and stress are stopping people from having babies and more couples are making the choice NOT to have children.
