Best Answer

Totally depends on the backup methodology and the rotation scheme.

I have a couple of clients that backup everything everyday and keep the tapes for two weeks. They have 14 copies.

Other's backup everything (or changed data in some cases) everyday, and keep the daily copies for two weeks, but keep the weekly tapes for months. There could be 30-40 copies in those cases.

What are the steps to be kept in mind while designing a network having three hundred nodes within a three-floor building and one server room?

Topology would be a priority as putting too many nodes together means if one node fails then everything fails. Separate departments on each floor should be on separate networks to enable accounts to do their own work electronically separately from the sales department from a network access point of view. What has worked in some countries is have each floor have their own network server with the firewall and the backup server in their own room

How many backup copies of window xp can you legally make?

Many companies try to restrict you into making only one backup. To make a backup of the installation CD of Windows XP is legal. Wether you make one copy or ten copies, this should not make it illegal. If you try to sell or otherwise give other people access to your backup, then this might be illegal. It is the personal code underneath many machines that makes your copy of windows, or rather the installed version, legal. You are not allowed to use this personal code on more than one machine.

What is one of the disadvantages of a server-based network compared to a peer-to-peer network?

With a peer to peer network, in order to access computers resources, all systems must be turned on and running. If one system goes down so does the entire connection. Where as with a server based network the connection will be up and running all the time regardless of how many computers are on. A server based network may prove more conventional for a larger network and may prove more reliable.
