If a queen bee dies, the whole colony will die out soon, because there will be no more production of royal jelly. Royal jelly are needed for potential new queen. Queen bees are the only bees that can produces new drones and workers bees.
When the queen bee dies one of the worker bees feeds a larvae some royal jelly and the larvae becomes the queen
If the queen dies, under certain circumstances the bees can raise a new queen. If for any reason they are unable to do that, the colony will die out.
when a Queen bee dies the worker bees feed an egg recently laid with royal jelly, thus creating a new queen.

If a queen dies, then the worker bees will feed royal jelly to some of the larvae and they will turn into queen bees. The first one out will kill all the others, so there will only be one Queen Bee in the hive. This is still a dead end until the queen finds a drone, mates and gets down into the business of egg laying.
First, hornets are not bees, they are a variety of wasp.If a hornet colony loses its queen there will be no-one laying eggs, so the colony will eventually die out as the older workers are not being replaced.
When a queen bee dies, the other bees in the hive will typically create a new queen. They will select a young larva and begin feeding it royal jelly to develop it into a queen. This process ensures that the hive can continue functioning and producing new bees.
A queen honeybee lives a protected and 'easy' life. She can live three to four years! But drones or worker bees have an average lifespan of a few weeks (1 month) to months (about 6 months). Worker bees can get evicted from the hive! Without the hive and its protection, the evicted bees will die.
I'm pretty sure it was a swarm of bees.
3/4 inches.Hope this helped.Noah
Drone Bees are Males. Queen Bees are females. During the mating flight, Drones from one or more hives deposit sperm inside the queen. When the Queen Bee lays her eggs, she may allow one sperm to enter the egg and fertilize it. That will create a female bee. If she does not allow a sperm to enter the egg, it will be asexual reproduction. It will produce a Drone, or male bee. In spite of the fact that the Queen Bee had sex, Drones, or male bees are produced without sex, or asexually. In addition, if something happens to the queen and she dies or disappears, the worker bees can lay eggs. They never had sexual contact. All the eggs they lay will turn into Drones. The bees can feed pollen to several of the developing bees and turn them into Queen Bees. One of them kills the rest and then mates with the drones produced from the eggs laid by the workers.
