All members of the House of Lords that are bishops voted against the same-sex marriage bill at its second reading in June 2013. However, after the bill passed overwhelmingly, the bishops released a statement saying that they are dropping all opposition to the bill. If passed, the bill prohibits the Church of England and the Church in Wales from performing same-sex marriages.
